The following paper in Danish examines the creation of a concept and pretotype for new interface for controlling of synthesizers or other digitally controlled musical instruments. Since the beginning of synthesizers people have been controlling them with the same interfaces, whether it is knobs, sliders, keyboards, pianos or capacitive interfaces. The digitalisation didn’t change anything, as the interface just got digital with on-screen metaphors of the old physical interfaces. So I sought to find a new and smarter way to interact with synthesizers through midi, that was low-cost and available to anyone. The result was a pretotype application for smartphones, that use the internal sensors and the touchscreen as an interface to control various changeable parameters on a synthesizer. The theory is based on Charles Spinosas book Disclosing New Worlds and his philosophy about disharmonies and history making, Sara Sarasvathys work on entrepeneurship and good old fashioned prototyping.
The following video demonstrates some of the capabilities of the prototype.SebastianRostved_LyddesignOgBranding_Eksamen
